Wow, it’s been 4 weeks since our classes began and a lot has been going on.
I spent my Christmas holidays in Brasil, living in Nova Friburgo which is a city in the mountainous region of Rio. It was gorgeous and exotic. I spent New Years in Rio de Janerio with fireworks, oceanic waves and new friends. I cannot wait to go back!
Now that I am back in Sudbury I am looking forward to some events that are happening. The most exciting right now is the Live-In For Literacy! Two Laurentian students have been camping out in the J.N. Desmarais Library for one week in the hopes of raising $4,000 to donate to the development of school libraries in developing countries. Living in an impoverished area of the world decreases opportunities and the development of literacy in children is an opportunity for them to understand and contribute to the political structure of their community.
Today is their last day! Check out the Soapbox in the Alumni Hall for some greater details OR if you’re interested in learning more click the link above. There are 9 Universities across Canada, from B.C to Newfoundland. Both of Laurentian’s Campuses are participating and our two Sudbury campers are ca. $500 away from their final goaaaaal
If you can make it over to donate to the Live-In..go for it! If you can donate online, definitely try it out. Don’t forget to read their blog either
I mean, you must like blogs, you blog-reader, you
