*musical notes* It’s the end of the world as we know it..and I feel fine! *musical notes*
Alright, it isn’t the end of the world , but it is definitely the end of the 2011/2012 Student’s General Association’s executive as we currently know it! It’s the time of the year where all the gung-ho students rally their friends and campaign their hearts out for positions on the board.
Each SGA/AGE member can join the board. They can represent their department, a commissioner, an executive and a bundle of other positions. The board thrives on student engagement and for those students who are interested in what goes on behind the club’s activities and the organized bus pass…while they’ve just got to sign up for the board and listen on in!
This year the candidates are for the positions of President, both VPs (Services and Issues) and Senator, of which there are 3. It’s an interesting race this year. We have two incumbents, which means the current President and the current VP of Services are re-running alongside tough competition. There are a total of 18 candidates for these 6 positions and a lot of them are looking good.
Every year the SGA/AGE has a low voter turnout. I hope that this year, with such an interest in leadership from all these candidates our association’s members will go out and vote, and not leave Chloe hanging (inside joke). If we don’t vote, well our association may end up hanging up it’s capabilities and become limited by it’s own decisions.
